Data from 2021 shows that delivery apps were above and beyond when it came to consumers downloading and using their services. This shows the online purchasing behaviours being seen since the pandemic are not going away. Spend on rapid grocery delivery apps grew by 123% compared to a 22% decrease for traditional supermarkets and the same level of percentage decrease can be seen for convenience and corner shops too.

However, the physical presence of a supermarket is not going away and the largest companies in the UK are now finding alternative options to offer customers. More than one supermarket is offering loyalty prices for members, another is investing in convenience stores within petrol stations to increase their market share and presence and now we are coming away from social restrictions we are seeing a push on a more positive physical shopping experience.
