There has been a Nuclear power station based at Sizewell since 1966 when Sizewell ‘A’ opened, this started the
long association of nuclear power being based on the East Coast of Suffolk. A second station, Sizewell ‘B’
was commissioned in 1995, with Sizewell ‘A’ continuing to generate electricity until 2006 when it was decommissioned.
Since 2013 the proposal to build a third nuclear reactor ‘C’ at Sizewell commenced. Now 8 years later the final
hurdles are almost complete with final planning approval from the Government and final funding to be resolved.
The purpose behind building Sizewell ‘C’ is that Britain has committed to eliminating harmful carbon emissions by
2050. With the goal being ‘Net Zero’. To do this we need to stop using fossil fuels, such as coal and gas. Building
Sizewell ‘C’ would provide dependable baseload electricity which will support growth in the future of a low carbon
The economic benefits recently released would mean an investment of £4.4 billion in the East of England, of which
£2 billion would be in Suffolk, as well as thousands of jobs created across the Region.
Sizewell ‘C’ could save Nine Million Tonnes of carbon emissions for each year of operation compared to a Gas-Fired
power station. With it supplying power to 6 Million Homes and generating electricity for 60 Years.
Seven Refrigeration are also continuing to reduce our carbon impact in 2021 by investing in additional Carrier
NaturaLINE machines, which are to be fitted to our new 40ft Refrigerated Containers. These containers will be arriving
in the UK later this year in time to support our customer operations in the run-up to Christmas.
The Carrier NaturaLINE machine uses the natural refrigerant CO2, which has a Global warming potential (GWP) of 1.
The lowest it can be!
